Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Olapeju Babafemi gave the assurance that the State Government would continue to provide enabling environment for women , children and Ekiti people in general to utilize their potential.
The Commissioner who gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti while featuring on Ekiti Loni/ Ekiti Today , a live audience participation programme on radio also pledged
the commitment of Government to the protection of the rights of girls, children, women and indeed all citizens of Ekiti.
She remarked that through the diligent enforcement of the State Female Genital Mutilation Prohibition Law, the State Child’s Rights Law, State Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law ,the Equal Opportunities Law and other laws protecting people’s rights, Gender- Based Violence cases would be effectively curtailed.
She said due to the commitment of the State Government, sensitization programmes and collaboration with Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders , more people are aware of the evil of GBV and cases were being reported.
The Commissioner commended the Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji Administration for the effective implementation of gender equality and women’s empowerment programmes under the Human Capital Development Pillar.
She said the unprecedented increase in the number of women occupying leadership positions across the LGs, LCDAs and at the State level is a reflection of the gender sensitiveness of the administration.
She said with the funds invested in women’s empowerment and partnership of the State Government with the World Bank , Ekiti girls and women will experience more holistic development which will engender sustainable development for the State in general.
According to her , the Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the Office of Her Excellency Dr Olayemi Oyebanji embarked on various skills acquisition training programmes and empowerment programmes including the distribution of sewing machines , deep freezers , grinding machines and
business startup
empowerment materials to women for their businesses.
