The newly appointed officers into the Ekiti State Civil service have been urged to equip and upgrade their knowledge and skills as drivers of Government policies and programmes to ensure the promotion of the pillars of Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration’s road map to keeping Ekiti State working as epitomized in the 6 – points agenda.
The charge was contained in a statement made by the Head of Service, Engr.Sunday Komolafe while declaring open the induction and orientation programme for the newly appointed officers into specialized cadres in Ekiti State Civil service.
According to the Deputy Director Information, Office of the Head of Service, Mr Festus Abosede, Komolafe noted that an induction programme is always a window of familiarization for inductees on their roles and expectations in any setting.
He said it behooves on any institution to properly inform new entrants about the practices of their organizations at the very point of entry.
” The importance of an induction programme of this nature in the public service cannot be over- emphasized,in a way,it offers a veritable platform upon which a sound career foundation can be erected.
It behooves on any institution to properly inform new entrants about the practices, culture, procedures,ethics and ethos of their organizations at the very point of entry ” he said.
Speaking further, Komolafe informed that Public Servants are supposed to promote and support the policies of the Government so as to enhance good governance and must not showcase inefficiency, as well as eschew partisan political activities and corruption,but rather good quality and efficient service delivery at all levels of governance.
Expressing the hope that at the end of the interactive session, participants would have familiarized themselves with and be able to identify the distinction between the civil service and the public service as well as acquainted themselves with public service rules,civil service commission regulations, public service financial management processes and budget procedures and processes, and acquired sufficient knowledge of the 6 pillars of the present administration.
He expressed appreciation to His Excellency,Mr.Biodun Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to building a virile civil service that will epitomize quality service delivery to the people.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Capacity Development and Training,Professor Olugbenga Tedela called on the inductees to sharpen their skills from time to time, and to keep learning and acquiring new skills that would make them better on the job as they continue their career in their different roles in the civil service.
Tedela canvasses the need for the inductees to make use of technology to their advantage in their various fields as it is a common knowledge that we are in the advent of an evolving technology, saying the civil service under the present administration was committed to the digital transformation of the state whereby technology would be deployed to carry out government business.
He emphasized the importance of capacity development and training as tools in building the required skills and expertise needed to strengthen the workforce of any organization ,and added that the Ministry would stop at nothing to transform the workforce of Ekiti State Civil service into a core operational, highly productive and strategic asset for effective and efficient service delivery.
Delivering his welcome address,the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Mr.Olufemi Adedipe challenged the inductees to see the induction programme as a learning process for self development through continuous learning which is a factor for capacity building and personal effectiveness, and in tandem with one of the six point agenda of the present administration which considered human capital development as a critical component and driver of socio-economic development that can guarantee the achievement of the administration’s shared prosperity vision for the Ekiti people.
The induction and orientation programme which was designed to last for 3- days and 5- days respectively had in attendance the newly appointed administrative officers, accountants, registrar of cooperatives and auditors.
