Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has restated the need to support People Living With Disabilities ( PWD) as the Society needs their input to survive, and they also need inputs from the society to thrive in a competitive environment like ours.
The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command, Mr John Fayemi, made this known when playing host to the Association of People Living with Disabilities in his office today along Ado/Ikere road, Ekiti State.
In a release signed by the CDPRO DSC Tolulope Afolabi, Fayemi commended the giant strides of the Corps Commandant General, Ahmed Abukakar Audi _PhD, OFR_ for creating Desk Offices in all State Commands, and the lesser Formations of the Corps. He said that the survival of PWDs rests on the strength of the society to support them in their quest to match up with the rest of the society which needs perseverance, support, empathy, fredliness good neighborliness from all and sundry.
Highlighting the reasons for the creation of the Desk Offices by the Commandant General, Fayemi noted that the Corps has recognized the contributions of these special breeds to the development of Nigeria as some of them have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers which calls for concerted efforts to support them in line with global best practices.
The Chairman Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Mr Owolabi Kayode Paul, who led the Association during the visit to the Command thanked the Commandant General and well as the State Commandant for their willingness to support the PWDs especially this time that political development is becoming stable in Nigeria, which necessitates total inclusion of the PWDs in the decision making policies of the Country to protect the interest of the Organisation and the PWDs.
Mr Olajide Funso Benjamin, the General Secretary of the Association, lauded the efforts of the Desk Officer in charge of the PWDs in Ekiti Command, ASCI Adejuwon Yemisi for reaching out to the Organisation in due time to know what NSCDC has lined up for them to support their vision and mission while taking into consideration challenges that are hindering the development of the PWDs in Nigeria.
