As the Russo-Ukrainian war would clock year on the 24th of February 2023, reconciliation and peace in the region of the Northern Europe seems a mirage now that the hammers hit more on economic, environment, social, international trade, global market and food supply.

Aside the fact that the citizens and denizens of the two countries fleeing and escaping from the snares of death, they increasingly becoming refugee in foreign and neighbouring countries like Poland, Germany among others, with more than 4.8million Ukrainians registered as homeless in Europe.

The world this time faces one of the greatest humanitarian crisis after World War ll. Although the EU had embarked on interventions and programs as well as granting amnesty to escapees, Ukrainians have their fingers to bite as their government says about 50 percents of its infrastructure is now damaged, hence, the electricity black out in major cities and suburb areas.

Already, thousand of lives have been lost, and millions of livelihoods have been disrupted through displacement, lost homes and lost incomes millions of children are in need of humanitarian assistances as they continue to suffer the deadly consequences of a brutal war not of their making. The war has severely impacted social cohesion, community security and the resilience of local communities, especially women and children.

Lack of access to social and strained community resources have increased the care burden of local women who responsible for the care of children, disabled and elderly family members.

Furthermore, the environment has also been a casualty of the war, in ways that have affected both human health and local ecosystem.

Massive forest fires spread as the fighting raged, while attacks on fuel and industrial facilities caused chemicals to leached into rivers and ground water. Back in early March, 2022 Russian rockets had destroyed a large, frozen-food ware house as the invasion force moved into to occupy the area.

A Russian attack on an industrial facility in Eastern Ukraine in April,  released a cloud of dangerous, highly corrosive nitric acid.

The economic impact of Russo-Ukrainian war can not be overemphasized. The destruction of production capacity, damage to agricultural land, and reduced labor supply as more than 14million people are estimated to have been displaced was no doubt one of the reasons Ukraine was unable to export grain throughout the nation the first five months as well as the blockage of the  shipping routes through the Black Sea.

The country’s economy is shrinking up to 35% which definitely affect international trade and emerging economy. Outside Ukraine, the war also continues to have a major effect on the global market and food supply.
