Excitement filled the air at Ekiti State University (EKSU) on Monday as over 9,000 newly admitted students celebrated their matriculation into one of Nigeria’s leading academic institutions.
The ceremony, presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, marked a significant moment for the university as it continues to attract the brightest minds from across the country.
In his address, Professor Ayodele congratulated the freshers for their remarkable achievement in securing admission amidst fierce competition—over 25,000 candidates had applied for just a fraction of the available spots. The Vice Chancellor proudly proclaimed EKSU as “one of the best universities in the country,” thanks to its commitment to academic rigour, high ethical standards, and a lineage of graduates making waves worldwide.
A particular point of pride was the inaugural class of the Doctor of Pharmacy programme, as the Vice Chancellor acknowledged their role in the university’s growing reputation for excellence. “Despite the challenges we face, our commitment to providing quality education and diverse programmes has never wavered,” he noted, hinting at ambitious plans in the pipeline for Dentistry and Mechatronics Engineering starting in the 2025/2026 session.
As the new students donned their academic robes, Professor Ayodele took a moment to impart crucial advice. “You are not just students; you are ambassadors of this great institution,” he reminded them. He stressed the importance of upholding the values encapsulated in their matriculation oaths and encouraged them to avoid any form of misconduct, stating, “Here at EKSU, we maintain a strict policy against wrongdoing. We expect you to uphold the reputation of this university.”
Acknowledging the support of local leadership, Professor Ayodele lauded Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji—a proud alumnus—for fostering an environment conducive to learning and teaching. The Governor’s wife, Dr. (Mrs) Olayemi Oyebanji, was also recognized for her unwavering support, dedicating her time to the faculty free of charge for the past two years.
Earlier, during an orientation event, the Vice Chancellor was impressed by the enthusiasm and discipline exhibited by the incoming students. Their eagerness to engage with their new community was palpable in the packed Main Auditorium, signaling a vibrant year ahead.
Looking forward, Professor Ayodele reassured students that the university is committed to enhancing campus life. Plans to develop additional hostel accommodations are already in motion, aimed at creating a more comfortable living environment for students as they embark on their academic journeys.
As a new chapter unfolds at Ekiti State University, the matriculating students step into a promising future filled with opportunities, challenges, and the chance to make their mark. The stage is set for a remarkable academic adventure ahead.
