A former Speaker of the Ekiti Youth Parliament and Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Transformation and Service Delivery, Mr Toba Fatunla, has been appointed Coordinator of Ekiti North Senatorial District for the City Boy Movement, CBM, in a move seen as a strategic effort to deepen grassroots political mobilization across the state.

Fatunla’s appointment was formalised at the Awolowo Civic Center in Ado Ekiti, where the Director of the Movement, Asiwaju Oluwafemi Kasali, presented letters of appointment to the three senatorial district leaders. The event, witnessed by members of the State Executive Council and party faithful, followed the earlier inauguration of sixteen Local Government Coordinators, what organisers described as a deliberate decentralisation of the Movement’s activities.

Kasali, while addressing stakeholders at the event, stressed that the expansion of the Movement’s leadership architecture across the senatorial districts was aimed at ensuring deeper penetration into communities and fostering broader participation in governance processes. He noted that the localisation strategy would empower coordinators to respond effectively to peculiar needs within their respective constituencies.

According to him, the appointment of Toba Fatunla represents another responsibility in his career which had been defined by youth advocacy and public service, saying that the personality, antecedents, and roles of Fatunla in providing exemplary leadership and mobilization for youth within the state makes him the best strategic head to handle the responsibility in Ekiti North.

A native of Ikole Ekiti, Toba Fatunla had previously served as President of the Ikole Youth Forum and Coordinating President of the Ikole Local Government Youth United Front, where he built a reputation for strong grassroots engagement and consensus building.

His leadership trajectory gained wider recognition when he emerged Speaker of the Third Assembly of the Ekiti Youth Parliament where he later served as Chairman of the Conference of State Youth Parliament Speakers in Nigeria, providing a platform for interstate collaboration on youth centred legislative advocacy and policy dialogue.

Beyond legislative engagement, Fatunla had been contributing to party organisation and transition processes in the state. He was a member of the APC Youth Mobilisation Committee in 2022 and also served as a co-opted member of the Ekiti State Transition Committee the same year, the roles that exposed him to strategic planning and governance coordination at a critical political period.

Academically grounded, Fatunla holds a degree in Microbiology from Ekiti State University, a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Ilorin. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Medical Microbiology, what members of the executive council described as a strong commitment to intellectual growth alongside public service.

In his current capacity as Special Assistant to the Governor on Service Delivery, working with the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, he has been involved in initiatives aimed at promoting efficiency, accountability and measurable performance within government institutions. This, Kasali also said the administrative experience positions him to bring structure and data driven coordination to his new political assignment.

Some of the members of Movement in Ekiti North who spoke after the event explained that Fatunla blends of grassroots mobilisation experience, administrative exposure and youth network across the state, expressing confidence that he would energise the Movement’s activities in the district.

The City Boy Movement is a grassroots driven political mobilisation platform aligned with the progressive ideals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is designed to promote structured political participation, youth engagement and coordinated support systems at ward, local government and senatorial district levels. The platform places emphasis on community outreach, voter education and strengthening democratic values through sustained mobilisation.
