Workers’ Day: Pharmacist Oluwasanmi Celebrates Ekiti Workers’ Resilience, Calls for More Support For Oyebanji

A renowned pharmacist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Adedayo Oluwasanmi, has felicitated with workers across the state on the occasion of the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, commending their commitment and resilience in fostering the development and stability of the state despite prevailing socio-economic challenges.

In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti through his media aide, Oluwasanmi described Ekiti workers as the engine room of the state’s progress, lauding their unflinching dedication, which he said has helped to sustain governance and service delivery even in the face of difficult economic realities and shifting political landscapes.

Oluwasanmi emphasized the crucial role workers play in advancing the state’s socio-economic growth, noting that their consistent efforts and sacrifices, particularly during turbulent periods, deserved not just commendation but continuous support from both government and private stakeholders. He called for improved welfare, enhanced working conditions, and better opportunities for their career advancement.

The 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, which took place at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, attracted workers from diverse sectors. The event was marked by colourful solidarity marches, speeches from labour leaders, and the recognition of outstanding contributions. Labour unions and government officials alike applauded the enduring spirit and performance of Ekiti workers.

In his goodwill message, Oluwasanmi urged the state workforce to remain committed and supportive of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He highlighted the governor’s strides in workers’ welfare, noting that the government had introduced a series of initiatives and reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of life and productivity of public servants across the state.

He stated that since assuming office in 2022, Governor Oyebanji has prioritized workers’ interests through prompt salary payments, settlement of promotion and salary arrears, and the implementation of a new ₦70,000 minimum wage for all public workers, including pensioners and security personnel. He also mentioned other reforms like payment of deductions and enhanced conditions for health workers.

According to him, the Oyebanji administration’s approach also includes non-monetary incentives such as monthly bonuses, free transport services, and work-from-home options to cushion economic pressures, adding that the Ulerawa Health Insurance Scheme and other interventions have boosted healthcare access for workers, while youth engagement in agribusiness and vocational training has also expanded job opportunities.

Oluwasanmi further lauded labour leaders like Comrade Kolapo Olatunde of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Comrade Sola Adigun of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for fostering industrial harmony in the state. He called for sustained investment in worker training and capacity building to meet the demands of the modern labour market, while urging private employers to uphold fair labour standards and safe workplaces.
