Youth Assembly of Nigeria Holds Second World Press Conference, Backs Governors Sanwo-Olu, Matawalle, Minister Olawande for Leadership Excellence

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) hosted its second world press conference today at the Civil Service Union House in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The event featured the inauguration of new appointees, a youth town hall meeting, and a press briefing, marking a significant milestone for the assembly.

Speaking at the event, the National Speaker of YAN, Rt. Hon. Famuyibo Oluwasegun, reflected on the organization’s recent strides in resolving internal disputes and uniting its members nationwide.

“This occasion celebrates the progress of our organization and the unity we’ve worked hard to restore,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among young Nigerians.

Oluwasegun shared details of YAN’s working visit to Lagos State, which began on December 9, 2024. During the visit, the assembly assessed over 40 developmental projects led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, focusing on infrastructure, youth empowerment, and human capital development. He commended the governor’s dedication, saying, “Governor Sanwo-Olu’s visionary leadership deserves our recognition.”

YAN formally passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Youth Development Engr. Olawande Ayodele, and Minister of State for Defense H.E. Dr. Bello Matawalle, praising their impactful leadership. Oluwasegun also highlighted the appointment of Hon. Ogunlende Mobolaji as Commissioner for Youth Affairs, describing him as approachable and youth-focused.

The assembly underscored the need for closer collaboration between YAN and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development. Oluwasegun applauded Minister Olawande Ayodele for his active engagement with youths across the country and urged the integration of YAN into ministry programs to ensure comprehensive youth development.

Touching on economic challenges, the National Speaker urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the rising cost of food and essential goods. He acknowledged the President’s ongoing economic reforms while emphasizing the need for policies that directly alleviate hardships faced by young Nigerians.

On security, YAN congratulated Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff and called for enhanced security measures during the festive season. The assembly also commended Minister Matawalle for his proactive steps toward national defense and safety.

Closing the conference, Oluwasegun reiterated YAN’s commitment to fostering peace and unity among Nigerian youths, regardless of tribe or religion. “Our resolve remains firm—to promote harmony and progress for our nation,” he said. He thanked attendees for their support and reaffirmed YAN’s dedication to advancing the interests of Nigerian youths and contributing to the nation’s development.
