A ranking member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Princess Teju Okuyiga, has applauded the leadership of the Executive arm of government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the leadership of the 7th Assembly under Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, describing it as exemplary, focused, and committed to good governance and excellence in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Okuyiga, who represents Gbonyin/Aiyekire Constituency, made the remarks as the public plenary session held at the Fajuyi pavillion Ado Ekiti marking the second anniversary of the 7th Assembly, saying that the speed of development in the state could only be traceable to the cordial relationship between the arms of the government.
The lawmaker, fondly referred to as “Asoju Ayiye” by her constituents and party faithfuls, attributed the successes of the Assembly to the unity of purpose among members, noting that the collaborative spirit in the House has significantly enhanced governance in Ekiti State. She emphasized that the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive, led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has ensured seamless policy implementation and development across the state.
Okuyiga commended the Speaker, Rt Honorable Adeoye Aribasoye for providing purposeful and inclusive leadership that has prioritized capacity building, institutional reforms, and effective representation. According to her, the deliberate efforts to promote harmony and legislative discipline have contributed to the efficient passage of bills and timely oversight responsibilities.
The Gbonyin/Aiyekire representative expressed delight at the landmark achievement of the Assembly in passing 13 impactful bills within a year, including laws focused on electricity reform, environmental protection, asset management, and local content development. She described the legislative output as unprecedented and reflective of a House attuned to the needs of the people.
She also acknowledged the strategic guidance of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whom she congratulated for creating an enabling political atmosphere that has allowed the Assembly to thrive. According to Okuyiga, the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance is evident not only in his support for the legislature but in the increasing number of women participating in politics and governance in Ekiti State.
“In this 7th Assembly, the voice of the Ekiti woman is louder than ever,” Okuyiga stated, highlighting the growing female representation in the legislative chamber and in other key positions across the government. She noted that the Oyebanji administration has provided a strong platform for women to lead, legislate, and contribute to state development.
Reaffirming her dedication to her constituents, Okuyiga pledged to continue delivering quality representation that has earned her the reputation of being “Asoju Ayiye” — a title that denotes a selfless, effective advocate of the people. She said the trust reposed in her by her community has been the driving force behind her commitment to grassroots engagement, social advocacy, and policy responsiveness.
Over the past two years, Okuyiga has initiated and supported a range of constituency development initiatives, including education support schemes, women empowerment programs, and health outreach services. She also played an active role in legislative debates and contributed to the scrutiny of key government policies and budgets to ensure they align with the aspirations of the people.
In addition to lawmaking, Okuyiga has remained a strong advocate of female empowerment and inclusive governance in Ekiti. Through her influence and advocacy, more women are being encouraged to participate in politics and civic leadership, a development she describes as essential for a balanced and prosperous society.
She called on fellow lawmakers, especially female legislators, to continue championing causes that uplift women and children, noting that true development is only achievable when all segments of society are carried along in decision-making and policy implementation.
Princess Okuyiga also commended the Assembly’s digital transformation under the e-parliament initiative, which allows for live broadcasts of proceedings and greater citizen participation in the legislative process. She noted that the digital reforms have improved transparency, accessibility, and civic trust in the activities of the House.
On staff welfare, the Aisegba Ekiti Princess expressed satisfaction with the new independent loan board established for Assembly workers, describing it as a morale-boosting development that reflects the Assembly’s commitment to institutional wellbeing and productivity.
The lawmaker expressed optimism that the 7th Assembly will consolidate on its achievements and break new grounds in the remaining years of its tenure. She stressed the need for continuous engagement with citizens, robust policy review, and intergovernmental synergy to deepen democratic dividends.
She thanked the people of Gbonyin/Aiyekire for their steadfast support, assuring them that their voices would continue to be heard and their interests protected in the chambers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. She also called for more support for the Oyebanji administration, assuring the Governor that the second term bid is a done deal.
