Governor Oyebanji, who reiterated his administration’s commitment to turning Ekiti’s natural assets into viable economic ventures, noted that nature must be appreciated not only for its aesthetic value but for the economic opportunities it presents, particularly in communities located along the state’s tourism corridor.
He noted that the state could no longer afford to depend on a single stream of income, pointing out the need for diversification through the exploration and development of its abundant natural endowments. According to him, Sagbonke Hill represents one of the many underutilised assets that can help lift citizens out of poverty when properly harnessed.
The Governor urged the residents of Efon-Alaaye to take ownership of the initiative and play a central role in transforming the site into a reputable tourist destination. He emphasised the importance of self-development and community-driven efforts in promoting local tourism and attracting government and private sector investment.
In his response, the Alaaye of Efon, Oba Emmanuel Aladejare, expressed gratitude to the Governor for personally visiting the site and showing interest in its development, assuring the Governor of the community’s support in the effort to bring the scenic Sagbonke Hill to national and international attention.
Oba Aladejare described the hilltop and its surroundings as rare in topographical appeal and economic potential, adding that the community had long looked forward to government recognition of the site’s unique value. He said with the state’s support, Sagbonke Hill could be developed to international standards and become a pride of Ekiti.
