Pharmacist Adedayo Oluwasanmi, an indigene of Ode-Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government Area, has described the emergence of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2026 gubernatorial election as a watershed moment in Ekiti’s political history.
He said the decision demonstrates maturity, unity of purpose, and a collective endorsement of the Governor’s exemplary leadership.
Oluwasanmi, a respected community leader and stakeholder in the health sector, commended the Governor for redefining participatory governance through policies that prioritise inclusivity, transparency, and human capital development. He noted that Oyebanji’s three years in office have been marked by visible progress across key sectors including healthcare, education, and infrastructure renewal.
Speaking with journalists at the delegates’ affirmation event held in Ado-Ekiti, Pharmacist Oluwasanmi said the smooth and rancour-free consensus process was not only a victory for the Governor but also a victory for political stability in Ekiti State. He stressed that the unanimous support given to Oyebanji by stakeholders and party faithful was a reflection of trust built through humility and accountability.
According to him, the Governor has proven to be a leader who listens, consults, and acts in the collective interest of the people. He observed that under Oyebanji’s leadership, Ekiti has witnessed a remarkable transformation in the state’s social and economic outlook, particularly through policies that empower youths, women, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
Pharmacist Oluwasanmi further praised the Governor’s commitment to the health sector, which he said has improved access to primary healthcare services across communities. He noted that the administration’s investment in revitalising health centres and recruiting qualified personnel has contributed to reducing medical emergencies and improving maternal and child health outcomes in rural areas.
He described the Governor’s consensus endorsement as a reward for competence and integrity, adding that Oyebanji’s calm and inclusive style has helped to mend old political divides. “What we are witnessing today in Ekiti politics is a new consciousness — one that places development above division and performance above politics,” he remarked.
Oluwasanmi also hailed the unprecedented unity among all former governors of the state, noting that their collective alignment behind Oyebanji underscores the Governor’s political maturity and capacity to sustain peace. He said it was rare in the political history of Ekiti to see all past leaders speaking in one voice, describing it as a sign of renewed hope and confidence in the state’s leadership trajectory.
He advised Governor Oyebanji not to allow political distractions or pressures from interest groups to derail his developmental agenda, urging him to remain focused on delivering tangible results to the people. He added that continuity in good governance remains critical to sustaining the gains of the administration’s ongoing reforms in the economy and social welfare.
The pharmacist further assured the Governor of unwavering grassroots support from the people of Ode-Ekiti and the entire Gbonyin Local Government. He pledged that community leaders and youth groups are ready to mobilize massive backing for Oyebanji’s second-term bid, describing him as “a governor who walks his talk and delivers on promises.”
Oluwasanmi maintained that the administration’s investment in education, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment has restored public confidence in governance and rekindled hope among the younger generation. He emphasized that the Governor’s leadership philosophy, anchored on empathy and service, has made government more accessible to ordinary citizens.
While congratulating Governor Oyebanji on his endorsement, he urged other stakeholders to sustain the prevailing harmony within the party, stressing that internal cohesion is key to winning future elections and consolidating the state’s developmental progress. He described the APC in Ekiti as a model of democratic discipline that should be emulated nationally.
Pharmacist Oluwasanmi concluded by calling on Ekiti citizens to continue supporting the government’s programmes and policies. He expressed optimism that with sustained unity, purposeful leadership, and the continued partnership between government and citizens, Ekiti State is on course to achieving greater prosperity, political stability, and holistic development under Governor Biodun Oyebanj
